Comparison · Category-level (not a vendor review)
BastionLog vs. scoring tools
Both sit inside a counterparty onboarding workflow. They diverge on whether the output is a single numeric label or a dated set of facts you can re-check.
Why this comparison exists
A compliance team runs every new supplier through a scoring platform. The platform returns a coloured light and a numeric band. The team files the result and moves on, but the underlying data and sources are buried inside a vendor portal.
Scoring tool · When this fits
An aggregated vendor product configured with a source mix. The output is a single band / light per counterparty.
Each tool collects data from a configured source mix and outputs a numeric band (low / medium / high) and a coloured decision label (proceed / review / block). The band is the product. Underlying evidence may or may not be visible, and the methodology is the vendor's proprietary asset.
BastionLog · When this fits
A dated log of public-source facts. Any third party can reproduce the log from the same inputs — no privileged process or closed model is required.
BastionLog outputs a structured record with source URLs and timestamps. It does not emit a band, a coloured light, or a recommendation — that call is reserved for the customer. It shows public records about companies for B2B trade; it is not a scoring, credit-assessment or compliance-review product.
Side-by-side comparison
| Source traceability | Scoring tool | BastionLog |
|---|---|---|
| Source traceability | Aggregated vendor data; sources are usually opaque. The vendor decides what counts as evidence. | Every fact is tied to a public source URL with an ISO 8601 timestamp. No un-sourced claim is published. |
| Decision labelling | Issues an overall numeric band (low / medium / high) and a coloured decision label (proceed / review / block). The coloured label is the product. | No overall pass / fail, no scoring band, no traffic-light signal. Each source only says whether it was found, not found, or temporarily unavailable. |
| Price & access | Annual subscription plus per-check fees, typically priced for compliance teams running hundreds or thousands of checks per month. | Full reports are bought per report (single or in packs). Current prices are on the pricing page. Document extraction is free. |
| Reproducibility | Vendor portal export, usually a PDF. Re-running for a different view means a new vendor query. | Dated PDF with raw field values, source URLs, and audit-trail entries. Re-running the same query yields the same factual record. |
When each is the right tool
Scoring tool · When this fits
Use a scoring tool when the workflow needs a single coloured label to feed a regulated process (bank onboarding, payment-processor compliance, regulated-entity vendor management), and when the team is willing to treat the vendor's numeric band as authoritative.
BastionLog · When this fits
Use BastionLog when the workflow needs evidence the trader can defend in front of a customer, a bank, or an internal auditor: a dated record, every claim cited, every field reproducible. BastionLog deliberately does not emit a coloured light because the call is yours to make.
Frequently asked questions
Is BastionLog a scoring or compliance-review tool?
No. BastionLog shows the public records about a company, each with its source, for B2B trade. It does not score companies and is not a compliance-review deliverable.
Can a BastionLog report sit alongside a scoring platform's result?
Yes, as a source record. The PDF report and the raw JSON it carries can be filed next to another platform's result as the underlying factual record. Any coloured label remains that platform's call, not BastionLog's.
What does BastionLog do when a source is unreachable?
The platform marks the affected field as Source Unavailable. BastionLog does not invent a value, and does not substitute a guess from another source under the same label.
